Queen Sirikit Has Mild Cold
(Neu? Zealand Press Association)
RANGATIRA, Aug. 23.
Queen Sirikit went to bed on the Rangatira tonight suffering from a head cold. She had an early night. The Royal physician, Dr. Kalya Israsena said the cold was mild and he expected the Queen’s health would be all right by the morning. The Queen gave no outward sign of illness as she stepped aboard at 8.20 p.m She went to her personal suite.
Police stopped soldiers holding a rock ’n’ roll party aboard but the fact that roy-
alty was aboard did not deter teen-agers from their usual singing on deck. The Commissioner of Police (Mr C. L. Spencer) and Chief Inspector D. Beal headed an undisclosed number of plain-clothes and uniformed police aboard. "Security is tight,” said Mr Spencer. Police are maintaining an all-night patrol in companionways near th? twin Royal suites, both amidships on A deck.
With 600 passengers aboard, including four girls’ hockey teams on their way to a national tournament at Dunedin, excitement mounted as sailing time drew near. Captain W. H. C. Millward, who had dropped his golf clubs and rushed back to his ship when told this afternoon that the King and Queen were to be among his passengers, welcomed the Royal couple aboard.
