APPLICATION HELD OVER
Restaurateur Owes £10,760
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Aug. 23.
The belief that it was important that a licenced restaurant should be free from financial embarrassment and pressures was affirmed by the Licensing Control Commission in ’ a decision released this evening. The commission said that it would not knowingly grant a licence to a person who was not in a financially sound position. The decision adjourned an application for a restaurant licence by George Vlasic in respect of premises known as the “Chevron International” at Rotorua. The commission stated that the advice of a medical officer of health was that a licence should be withheld as an incentive to Vlasic to maintain a high standard of cleanliness in food handling. It was not going to overrule this recommendation unless, in the quite unlikely circumstance, it was shown in evidence that the medical officer was wrong on the facts or that he had reached a wrong conclusion from his observations.
At a second hearing, to its surprise, the commission had also found from an unaudited statement that Vlasic had substantial liabilities—£lo,76o —of which considerably more than half was owing to unsecured creditors. , The conditions of the adjournment are that a report is furnished by the medical officer of health by October 31, and that an audited statement of Vlasic’s financial affairs is furnished.
