Fencing HIGH SCHOOL TITLES
Linwood Pupil Favoured
Thirty-five entries, most of them from the North Island, have been received for the national secondary schools fencing championships, being held for the first time in Christchurch this week-end.
Although Canterbury may be outmatched in team events, the boys’ national foil title will orobably be taken bv A. Parder. of Linwood High School. Parder is the provincial schoolboy champion, and last weekend was runner-up in the provincial senior visual foil championship Canterbury will provide another prominent contender. L. J. Bliss, of Christchurch Boys’ High School, who lost the provincial schoolboy title to Parder by only one point. Last vyear’s national schoolboy champion. G. Whitford, of Selwyn College. Auckland, will be competing.
Auckland, with 14 representatives. will be sending the largest contingent. Two boys’ teams and a girls’ team have been entered by Wellington, and eight fencers will represent Canterbury. The championships will be held in the Linwood High School hall.
The Canterbury teams are:— Boys: A. Parder (Linwood). L J. Bliss (Boys’ High School). R Glover (Linwood). Girls: D. Swain (Riccarton). J. Manson (Avonside), P. Hughes (Linwood )
