TOKEN FORCE
6 N.Z. Wants Return’ (N.Z.P. A.-Reuter— Copyright) BANGKOK, August 22. The Thai Prime Minister, Marshal Sarit Thanarat, told reporters today that New Zealand had expressed a desire to withdraw her token ground forces from Thailand. About 36 paratroopers of the New Zealand Special Air Service arrived in Thailand in early June in a move by South-east Asia Treaty Organisation countries to bolster Thailand's defence against Communist infiltration from Laos.
The Thai Prime Minister said, however that the New Zealand air unit would remain in Thailand.
With the paratroopers New Zealand sent an air squadron of three Bristol Freighters and about 40 Air Force men.
