Stripper’s Rose A new 30-petal rose named Gypsy Rose after the striptease dancer, Gypsy Rose Lee, was unveiled at a reception in Toronto. Film On Belts A film showing tests made in the United States on the use of car safety belts was shown to the monthly meeting of the Christchurch Metropolitan Road Safety Committee last evening. The film, which has been shown on Channel three, showed views of test crashes between cars with instrumented dummies as passengers.

Lemons By Aramoana

A trial consignment of lemons sent by the Aramoana to South Island markets from growers in the Bay of Plenty is expected to arrive in Christchurch today. Trial shipments of bananas, tree tomatoes and Chinese gooseberries have recently been sent to the South Island by the Aramoana. Growers are interested to know if transport by way of the Aramoana is more satisfactory.

Boys’ Brigade Camp

New Zealand will send a contingent of 26 Boys Brigade members to an international camp in Scotland in / ugust next year. The camp will mark the eightieth anniversary of the Boys’ Brigade movement. Mr D. S. Trott, captain of the First Wanganui group and a member of the New Zealand executive has been appointed commanding officer of the contingent. An invitation from the Australian council to attend a Pan-Australian camp near Sydney, from December 29 to January 7, has been accepted and applications to attend this camp are being called.—(P.A.) Donation The New Zealand pairs champions, the Lawrence brothers, of Dunedin, have impressed a Dunedin firm so much they will have the benefit of a new shell when they compete in the Empire Games rowing championships at Perth. The firm has donated enough money to set up a fund to buy a new racing shell. It is anticipated that the craft will afterwards be sold to a New Zealand club and the fund be held in*trust ready for the purchase of a new shell before any international event in which New Zealand enters. A pair-oar shell costs about £300. (P.A.) Ski-ing Party A party of 24 skiers from New Caledonia will arrive at Whenuapai by air on Sunday The skiers will fly on to Christchurch the same afternoon and they will motor to Queenstown on Monday They will spend the next week ski-ing at Coronet Peak. The leader of the party is Professor J. la Plagne, the English teacher at La Perouse College.— (PA.)
