CARE OF TEETH
N.Z. Apathy Criticised
(N.Z. Press Association) TIMARU August 20. A New Zealand shortage of school dental nurses and a public apathy towards the proper care of teeth were interdependent in the opinion of the principal dental officer for the Timaru district (Mrs J. C. Spain). “Until the public gives dental care an adequate place in the family budget, and changes its mind towards fluoridation, there is little chance of increasing our dental staff,” she said in Timaru today. While children were allowed to eat so many sugars and starches, and to neglect teeth-cleaning. the outlook for New Zealanders’ teeth was “grim,” in spite of 40 years of school dental clinics, said Mrs Spain.
