PLAGUE FEARS

Troops Guard Institute (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright)

ALGIERS. Aug. 19 The French Army veterinary service took over guarding animals at the Pasteur Institute in Algiers today because of fears that Algerian raiders might let loose plague rats in the city. On Thursday and Friday, the institute was invaded by Algerian soldiers and civilians, who kidnapped three employees. The institute has warned that an epidemic could break out in the city if rats and dogs inoculated with plague, typhus and cholera germs got loose, the British Unified Press reported.
