Projects To Be Discussed The engineering implications of extending the fistrate telephone exchange areas in all sections will be among topics discussed at the conference of Post Office engineers in Christchurch toThe provision of additional junction circuits needed lor the extension of the flat-rate area would be among the problems discussed, the Regional Engineer (Mr L. D. Bewley) said yesterdiy. T&e extension of the flat-rate area was now departmental policy, but progress would depend on such problems and the resources ' available, he said. Design aspects of a proposed microw'ave broad-band toil system linking Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin would also be considered. The project had been approved in principle, and research information and field data were now being collected, he said. The system would have a capacity of 900 circuits, althouigh the number used initially would depend on the demand. Works programmes, problems of finance and staff, major telephone exchanges, and country exchange planning would also be dealt with.
