Awards For Design

AUCKLAND, August 13. Two Auckland artists share the first prize of £4OO in this year’s Crown Lynn design awards, announced tonight. They are Mr R. A. Drake, of Takapuna, an architectural draftsman, and Mr Graham Percy, an art specialist at Avondale College. The award-winners were selected from a record number of 1085 entries The awards were announced by
the joint judges. Professor H. J. Simpson, professor of fine arts at the University of Canterbury; Mr B. Hartwell, chief designer, the Carpet Manufacturing Company. Christchurch; and Mr D. Jenkin, chief designer at Crown Lynn Potteries. Ltd.. New Lynn The awards total £730.
The major awards will tie presented in Wellington on Wednesday night by the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) and Mrs Holyoeke.
The awanl winners are:— £2OO each: Mr R. A. Drake (Takapuna), Mr Graham Percy (Parnell), £150; Mr Mark Cleverly (Christchurch) £5O: Mr John Bijl (New Lynn); £2O each- Mr Williams Emsley (Khandallah), Mr Cleverly. Consolation awards, £lO each: Mrs Lindsay Percy, Mr Bijl, Mr Percy. D Greville. aged 14 (Bayswater), Mrs Brenda Briant (Marton); Mr P C. Phillis (Howick), Mr D. Gourley iChristchurch). Mr Cleverly, Mr P. Matchat (Hamilton).
