FIREWOOD FOR AGED
Volunteers Needed For Work
To date about 200 bags of wood have been delivered to a'-'ed, crippled and needy persons by the firewood for aged movement. On Thursday 110 bags were delivered to pensioners at Glue place and more will be supplied next week.
The organiser (Mr H. E. Helem) said volunteers were urgently needed for the sawing and bagging of the timber as well as its delivery The work was also hampered bv lack of vehicles. There was only one lorry for carrying the wood at present, he said A letter has b<*en circulated bv the National Council of Churches to Christchurch congregations asking support for the project., Wood was mainly obtained from demolished houses and during the week-end volunteers were wanted for carting wood from Packe street to his depot in Huxley street. Mr Helem said.
