THE REV. MOTHER BASIL, of Calvary Hospital, who yesterday celebrated the jubilee of her profession in the religious life. One of the hospital’s five foundation sisters. Mother Basil came to New Zealand in 1914 from Lewisham Hospital, Sydney, where she did general and maternity nursing training. She was born in New South Wales. Mother Basil was mother superior at Calvary from 1931 to 1937, and attended a chapter in Rome in 1936. A message for her jubilee was received from the Pope, and a High Mass was celebrated in Calvary Hospital chapel in honour of the occasion.
