O.S. Footwear

Sir, —New that there is much public interest in footwear as a resulit of the currant exhibition and associated publicity I submit a plea for that small minority of sad bodies not cast in the common mould. My foot requires a size 12 shoe. This may be gross, but it still has to be shod; it can't be shrunk. I recently visited most of the city shoe stores saying, *‘l want a pair of shoes, not plain black or brown.” “Certainly, sir." ‘‘Size 12.” “Oh, no. ...” There must be hundreds of different combinations of leather surface and colour and style in size 9 but when you come to size II there are less than a dozen and in size 12 about three. I assume that this happens at the other end of the scale and also among women’s Shoes. Why can’t fewer numbers of a greater variety be made for us outcasts?—Yours, etc., R.D.E. August 1, 1962. [The vice-president of the New Zealand Footwear Manufacturers' Federation (Mr W. Sargison) had no comment to make on this ■letter.]
