FOOD DEARER IN JULY
Egg And Onion Prices Up (U.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 6. Between June and July the all food group of the consumers’ price index rose 7 points <lO 6 per cent.), said the Government Statistician in a statement released today. This , increase has resulted from an upward contribution of 8 points from the fruits, vegetables and eggs subindex. There was no movement in the meat and fish sub-index while the slight fall in the ‘‘other” food sub-index made no effective contribution to the over-all movement. Egg prices remained unchanged during July when a seasonal decrease is normally expected. This lack of seasonal change in egg prices was the main contributor to the upward movement in the fruits, vegetables and eggs sub-index This, together with a small contribution from higher onion prices, was offset by decreases contributed by potatoes and seasonal fruits a nd vegetables.
