Pan-Pacific Women.— The Pan-Pacific and South-east Asia Women’s Association in New Zealand has been invited by the executive of the New Zealand United Nations Association to become a corporate member of the latter association. This was announced at a Dominion executive meeting of the former group held in Wellington last week-end, reported the president of the Christchurch branch (Miss Mary McLean). Bavarian Music.— The interrelation of Bavarian history and music was outlined by Mrs B. C. Penney at a recent meeting of the Young Women’s Christian Association travel club. Mrs Penney illustrated her talk with slides of Munich and Bavaria, and player recorded excerpts of Wagner’s music.
C.W.I. Delegates.— Country women's institutes throughout New Zealand will be represented at the conference of the Associated Country Women of the World conference in Melbourne by the following delegates:—Mesdames E. D. Holt (Dominion president). M. E. Markwick, I. K. Wood, and G. Braid, and Miss A. G. Kane. Three contributing members and 15 visitors from Canterbury will also attend.
St Helens Hospital.—One hundred and thirty-six babies were born in St. Helens Hospital. Christchurch, last month. In July, 1961, there were 125.
Kaluga C.WJ.— Members from North Canterbury Country Women's Institutes, Women's Division of Federated Farmers and the Mothers’ Club were special guests when the C.W.I. celebrated its fifth anniversary recently. Members of the entertainment committee gave musical items and sketches. The year’s trophy was won by Mrs M. Butts, the general prize by Mrs D. Milne, and the floral prize by Mrs W Butts. A special prize for members who had put in the most entries but not gained a prize was won by Mrs I. Clark.
