MEDICAL AID ACT
Saskatchewan Amendments f N Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) REGINA (Saskatchewan), August 5. Saskatchewan now has a Medical Aid Act which Government and doctors alike approve. A special session of the Provincial Legislature last night approved amendments to the compulsory medical insurance scheme, the introduction of which on July 1 led to a 23-day strike by most of Saskatchewan’s doctors. The amendments permit doctors to practise privately outside the act, allow voluntary non-profit making health insurance schemes to operate side by side with the Government scheme., and strip the official Medical Care Insurance Commission of many of its original powers.
