Sky High Wins Easing Up (N Z P A -Reuter—Copyright) SYDNEY. August 5 Sky High confirmed himself as Australia’s best racehorse when he won the Canterbury Stakes tirst-up yesterday. Starting favourite at 11 to 8 on, Sky High came from what seemed a hopeless position His time of imin II 9/10sec was only a little outside the record of Imin lljsec made jointly by Beaulivre in 1940 and Star Realm in 1955. Sky High was having his first run after a tour months’ spell and won easing up Sky High swooned to the front and the jockey G. Moore was content to sit on him over the closing stages and not push him out when it was obvious he had the race won. Wenona Girl was running on strongly in second place but never looked a chance over the .ast furlong. Sky High s win took him even further ahead as the leading stake winner running in Australia at present. His first prize of £1225 increased his total to £58,290. This came from 36 starts for 22 wins, four seconds and seven thirds. Sky High was at odds-on and fiuctuated between 10 to 9 on and 5 to 4 on. to eventually start at II to 8 on. Wenona Girl was firm early at 6 to 4, but then eased and started at 2 to 1, although one big bet of £1750 to £lOOO was laid against her. No Match, who eased in the betting from 20 to 1 to start at 66 to 1. ran a good race to finish third.
