COOK STRAIT BID
Blair Trains In Cold (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 5 A Christchurch surfer. R Blair, swam a cold and lonely practice course off the Mskara coast today in preparation for his Cook Strait attempt later this year. Accompanied onlv by his trainer. Mr J. A. Young, he covered about three miles of Cook Strait, hindered by a heavy swell but helped along by the spring tide.
He climbed back into the dinghy only when the boat lost a rowlock and Mr Young considered it too dangerous to remain at sea any longer The water temperature, at 54 degrees, was about seven degrees colder than it will be when Blair is swimming the strait in earnest.
