EXPORTING CLOTHING
Possibilities For N.Z. (N.Z. Press Association) WAIRAKEI. Aug. 5. "The quality and styling of New Zealand clothing is a cause for satisfaction, particularly in the women’s field.” the Minister of Customs and associate Minis.er of Industries and Commerce (Mr Shelton) told the annual conference of the New Zealand Textile and Garment Clothing Manufacturers’ Federation ait Wairakei on Saturday. ‘‘With these features there is no reason why we cannot find markers for our highquality fashion goods, especially where New Zealand designs are used to provide novel styling and patterns.” “Many manufacturers make products of foreign countries under licence. These could be exported to markets such as Australia, where they qualify for British preferential tariff treatment.”
One clothins manufacturer, using his exclusive designs, has managed to build up a market in Australia. “Other manufacturers can do the same if they pay attention to price, quality, design and selling techniques," said Mr Shelton.
