Country Schools Hold Annual Sports Tourney
More than 200 children took part in the Country Primary Schools’ annua: quadrangular winter sports tournament, held at Dudley Park, Rangiora. yesterday. Children. came from Cheviot in the north, to the Rakaia • river in the south, which included the Hurunui, .Ellesmere and North Canterbury districts. Malvern did not take part this year, and to keep the number of teams at four North Canterbury entered two teams in all grades of both Rugby and basketball. The president of the organising association (Mr A. Teal) congratulated the children on their performances. and the secretary and organiser (Mr A. L. Cleland) said he wished to thank all the referees and umpires. North Canterbury and Ellesmere each won a Rugby final: while in the basketball North Canterbury won two finals and Ellesmere won one. Results were;— RugbyUnder 7st 7lb.—Hurunui beat North Canterbury B. 13-0: North Canterbury A beat Ellesmere.
