Campaign In China (NZ. Press Assn. —Copyright) HONG KONG, July 29 China is exhorting its people to practise birth control and restrain their sexual impulses. This new emphasis on birth control, aimed at married officials and industrial workers. coincides with a national campaign against early marriages. the British United Press reported The new line on birth control is accompanied by estimates that Chinas mounting and hungry population has already passed the 700 million “All married couples should not have children immediately after marriage and must practise birth control by means of contraceptives,” said the July 7 issue of the Peking "Daily Worker." Setting out the party line the “Daily Worker,” the newspaper of the All China Federation of Trade Unions, said: “The happiness of one's life depends on birth control In many families wives become feeble and sick because of giving birth to too many children. "The more children one has. the heavier the burden grows. As a result, parents do not have their hearts in their work and political study, and the children cannot be brought up properly." A leading article in the “China Youth Daily" said: “Only by birth control can the harm of early marriages be reduced to a certain degree. Firstly, you should use contraceptives, and secondly you should restrain your sexual life.’’
