Thunder Shakes Buildings I From Out Oum Reporter) OTIRA. August 1 ’ There was a spectacular iisplav of lightning in Otira ’onight Between 6 and 7 pm thirty-three brilliant tashes were recorded Thunderclaps rolled londlv overhead and the village was drenched with heavy ram. Telephone wires crackled loudly and. at times. conversations were virtually impossible Radio reception was frequently interrupted and 'ights in the village flickered Snow fell in the Otira Gorge but was of no danger to the motorist Some overhead thunderclaps could actually be felt reverberating through the buildings It was the most outstanding thunderstorm Otira has had for more than two years.
