ARAMOANA ARRIVES
Inspection Bv Officials IN.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 27. Fully dressed, the new railroad ferry. Aramoana. arrived at Wellington at the end of her delivery voyage from Scotland yesterday afternoon. Hundreds of people lined tne area adjacent to the railroad terminal to see the vessel tie up. The Minister of Railways i Mr McAlpine* stepped aboard, with the General Manager of Railways (Mr A T Gandell) and other officials. After inspecting the interior. Mr McAlpine said she was a magnificent ship in every way. The A.-amoana embodied some of the most up-to-date technical equ.pment in the world and the service she would establ.sh would have a profound influence on New Zealand’s economic growth. The vessel’s master. Captain J E. Peake, said he was well satisfied with the way she had functioned on the voyage from the United K.ngdom. The usual minor teething troubles had been experienced but nothing that had not been expected. The Aramoana was the largest diesel electric ship ever built in the United Kingdom and he had no doubt she would live up to expectations.
