COSTS OF SCHOOLS
Govt. Claims Savings (Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, July 11. A claim that the Government had reduced the cost of school buildings—on a cost per pupil basis—by 38 per cent was made by the Minister of Education (M r Tennent) in the House of Representatives tbnight. Mr Tennent said that there were four types of post-pri-mary school, known as the Naenae, Henderson, Porirua and Nelson types. The cost of building schools of each type, which would accommodate 600 pupils and would contain 27 teaching units, would be: Naenae £290.000; Henderson, £2ll • T 2 i>o p S» rua ' £lB5 ’ 000: NelMn ’ He gave details of the corridor space involved in each establishment, and added that the education authorities had built five schools of the Naenae type, 12 of the Henderson °J, V 1 * Pocirua and 17 of the Nelson. Ten more of the Nelson type were under construction.
