Aluminium Industry
Sir, —How right Mr Arthur Lush is! We are selling our water rights to an international combine for a mess of pottage. The National Party and the Labour Party, for vote-catching gains, are both involved in this scandalous business, while turning their backs on millions of pounds of revenue from the tourist trade. The most beautiful lake in the world, Lake Manapouri, has been given away, under a still secret agreement, and no member of Parliament has so far raised a voice in protest. If it goes, a unique network of tourist attraction goes. The jet-boat run between Manapouri and Te Anau goes. The glorious scenic link-up of Milford Sound, Te Anau and Manapouri will be lost forever to posterity and the mounting gains from tourism. Can the Government and the Opposition not see past their noses?—Yours, etc., TOURISM. July 10, 1962.
