Week’s Adjournment Of Parliament

(New Zealand Press Association)

WELLINGTON, July 10. The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) said in the House of Representatives tonight

that he would move on Friday that the House adjourn for the whole of next week. He said the select committee on the fishing industry had about three days’ work and the Public Expenditure Committee had “stacks of work ahead of it." The Local Bills Committee had five bills before it, as well as a bill which had just been introduced and notice

was expected to be given tomorrow of the Auckland Regional Bill being introduced.

There were 15 petitions, three of which were ready for hearing. “There will be a pretty heavy week for most mem.

bers of the committees," said • Mr Holyoake. The Leader of the Opposi- . tion (Mr Nash) said: “This

will be hard on members of the Opposition. There is a by-election on Saturday week and members of the Opposition who will be taking part are mainly on these committees. They will have to attend committee meetings even though the House is not sitting.” The Prime Minister said he had offered to try to arrange the sitting of the committees

to suit members and would still try to do so.
