For the second successive year F. Phillips, holder of the Australian open championship, is leaving the British golf circuit in the middle of the season and flying back to Sydney He made his decision after returning an 82 in the second qualifying round of the British open championship at Troon yesterday, giving him a total of 155—one too many to qualify for the championship proper. Phillips has been in America and the Far East—where he won the Malayan open—and hanot been home for six months. ”1 am just not thinking about golf and you cannot play this game while you are thinking about something else. My mind is on home all the time. I cannot win anything and I am wasting my money staying over here.” he said.
