CRICKET Cambridge Captain’s Fine Century

Lewis, the 24-year-old Cambridge University captain and the shock inclusion in the M.C.C.*s availability list for Australia, scored a magnificent century against Northamptonshire at Northampton in the latest round of county cricket matches. He made a chanceless 124 not out, including 20 fours, in 239 minutes.

Results of county championship matches, which ended on Tuesday were:— At westeliff.—Yorkshire IB (K. Preston five for 63> and 185 (K. Taylor 84; T. E. Bailey five for 55) drew with Essex 202 (G. Smith 52) and 80 for one wicket. Yorkshire four points. At Old Trafford.—Gloucestershire 220 (D. Young 88) and 191 for two wickets (R. Nicholls 73. Young 61) drew with Lancashire 262 (T. Greenhough 76 not out. G. Clayton 66; A. Brown seven for 123), Lancashire four points. At Bath.—Somerset 275 for nine wickets declared (H. W. Stephenson 147 not out, G. Greetham 68, W. Alley 50) and 106 for three wickets declared (P. Wright 101 not out. Alley

83) beat Nottinghamshire 257 (H. Winfield 85, J. Springhalt 99) and 171 (Winfield 73; M. Latham live for B). by 152 runs. Somerset 14 points At Portsmouth.—Hampshire 373 for three wickets declared (J. Gray 213 not out. H. Barnard 73. P J. Sainsbury 63 not out) and 156 for no wickets (J. Gray 85 not out, H.
