R. Charles 37 For 9 Holes

Charles, of New Zealand, wm one over scratch for nine holes when the first round proper of the British 72holes open golf championship waa played at Troon today. Charles reached the turn in 37. He began with four 4’s, sinking a putt of 15ft for a birdie at the fourth. P. W. Thomson, of Australia, who has won the title four times, took 36 for the first nine holes. Thomson had a six at the fourth hole, but then played Ute next five holes one under scratch.
