A Government subsidy a* the maximum rate has been granted the Timaru City Council to help build 12 single, and six double flats for pensioners. The Minister of Health (Mr McKay) in announcing this today, said eight elderly couples, and 27 single old persons on the Timaru waiting list qualified for pensioners’ flats, and a need existed for this accommodation. Final drawings and specifications would need Department of Health approval, and rents must not exceed £1 12s 6d a week for single flats and £2 2s 6d a week for double flats.
