CURRENT NOTES
Women’s Club.—The Canterbury Women’s Club Music Circle held its first open afternoon for the year recently. Members and friends were welcomed by Mrs R. G. Gartath, the circle leader. The programme included instrumental and vocal items and recitations arranged by Miss K. O'Connoe. Guest artists were Mesdames L McDonald, P. Gibson, A. Rennie, C. Bradley, P. O’SulIhren and Mias M. Williair*.
Dickens Fellowship.—A programme organised by Miss Hilda Wilson ait a recent meeting of the Christchurch branch of the Dickens Fellowship covered “the grand tour of the Continent” done by the Dickens’ character, William Dnrrit and his family. A quiz session was also held. Thanks were expressed to Miss E. Stocker for a gift to the branch of an original etching of “The Old Curiosity Shop.”
A Family Affair.—A 97-year-oiri member of the Fendalton Townswomen’s Guild (Mrs R. Burgees) her daughter (Mrs W. M. Duncan), and her granddaughter 'Mrs A. Craig) officiated at the cakecutting ceremony at the recent sixth birthday party held by the guild. Mrs Duncan and Mrs Craig are also members of the guild. A programme of entertainment
was presented by the singing and drama circles. Old Pupils EntertainedThe president of the Christchurch branch of the Otago Girls’ High School Old Girls’ Association, Mrs L. Lincoln Women’s Group.— A Scojtish evening, with a programme of Scottish country dancing arranged by Mrs M. Charlton, was held by the Lincoln College Women’s Group ait a recent meeting. Mrs R. Burns presided and welcomed members of the Canterbury University Scottish dancing group as guests. Brian North gave a demonstration of highland dancing. Congratulations^—Mrs i K. McCreanor, who was awartJed an M.B.E. in the Birthday Honours, was congratulated at a recent meeting of the literary circle of the Canterbury Women's Club. Mrs McCreanor was presented with flowers from members.
Birthday Party.—The Richmond Townswomen's Guild held its twelfth birthday party recently, when the president (Mrs B. Evans) welcomed members of the Dominion executive, and officers of the Christchurch area federation. A programme included a one-act play by the drama and singing circles.
Presentation to Secretary— Mrs B. Hoban, who has been secretary of the Amur! branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers for the last five years, has resigned from office. She has been succeeded by Mrs D. B. Stevenson. The patron of the branch (Mrs M. Bethell) presented Mrs Hoban with a gift in appreciation of her services at a recent meeting.
