Mr P. W. Bennet, of Timaru. who is completing his bachelor of arts degree in the modem languages department of the University of Canterbury, has been awarded a German Academic Exchange Service scholarship to study in Germany next year. Dr. C. G. Riley has been appointed director of medicine to the North Canterbury Hospital Board, and Mr H E. H. Denham hias been made director of surgery to the board. Dr. F. T. Shannon has been appointed senior visiting paediatrician and Dr. J. R. M. Davidson assistant visiting surgeon. Mr A. C. T. Thomsen, who has resigned as assistant engineer of the Waimairi County Council to take up the position of engineer to the Levels County Council, was bidden farewell by the chairman and members when ’he council met last evening
