FOREST FIRE OFFICER
New Post For Mr C. 0. Bridgeman Mr C. O. Bridgeman, senior forest ranger in Canterbury, has been appointed chief fire officer of the New Zealand Forest Service. In his new position Mr Bridgeman will be responsible for the fire protection and control of all of the exotic and indigenous forest controlled by the Forest Service. He will tak.e up his duties in Wellington in July. Mr Bridgeman joined the Forest Service in 1913. He started the planting of an exotic forest at Pebbly Hills and f hnn served in the First
World War for three years After the war. Mr Bridgeman returned to Southland where he was in charge of la small forest at Berwick (He was then transferred to Hawkes Bay, where he was in charge of a forest at Gwavas. He served for some time as district officer for Wairarapa and then in 1949 was appointed officer in charge of the Golden Downs forest in Nelson, the second largest forest in New i Zealand. In 1954 Mr Bridgeman became senior forest ranger in Christchurch where he was responsible for the control and fire protection of the large State forests in Canterbury. A successor to Mr Bridgeman has not been appointed yet
