Education Board To Hold Elections On July 18

Canterbury Education Board elections will be necessary on July 18 in the Christchurch combined group of wards and in the two West Coast wards as a result of nominations which closed yesterday. School committee members who vote in each ward are likely to be pleased that more than sufficient candidates are offering and that competition will stimulate interest. Meetings of the full board and its committees take three full days each month, and duties tn the wards may take at least another two days, so that this service involves a good deal of persona] sacrifice Nominations listed below show the seats ’’scant and the numbers of committees from which each member may vote Bigger schools have more votes because committees generally range from five to nine members The nominations are:— Cbristehareb combined group of wards, covering the whole city. 70 committees with 611 members, three seats—H C Anderson. F A Betts. W J Cartwright. A Greenwood (sitting member) Mrs M. E Holland (sitting member). J Palmer. W Rosenberg. Mr C S Thompson, a sitting member and former chairman, is retiring after 42 years on the board Messrs Anderson. Betts. Palmer and Rosenberg are all prominent members of the Canterbury Schoo) Committees’ Association, and Mr Cartwright is a recentlyretired headmaster North ward No. 1. territory north of the Waipara river. 21 school committees. one seat.—A.
