Faulty Railway Carriage
Sir,—For almost two weeks railway officials have permitted a door fastener on one of the Lyttelton carriages to remain faulty with the result that passengers have travelled with strong wintery blasts blowing around their persons —Yours, etc., UNWILLING SPARTAN June 22, 1962. [The district traffic manager of the Railways Department (Mr E. C. Brittenden) said: “The department has a regular routine for the in-
spection of carriages and any faults such as that mentioned by your correspondent would normally be quickly repaired. However, the deficiency mentioned by ‘Unwilling Spartan’ apparently escaped the notice of our staff and I therefore tender my sincere apologies to him for the inconvenience he and other passengers may have suffered.”]
