N.Z. Company Holding Conference In Australia

In recent years sales conferences of Philips Electrical Industries of New Zealand. Ltd., have had unusual meeting places. Once the firm chartered a train to run through the North Island with the conference talks being held in the special carriages. another time the conference was held aboard the inter-island steamer-express with the delegates making several return WellingtonChristchurch trips. This year, an even more exciting venue was chosen and yesterday a party of about 240 flew in chartered aircraft for Brisbane to begin the sales conference at Surfer’s Paradise. One of the aircraft left Christchurch yesterday morning. and included in its 60 passengers were 12 Christchurch electrical goods re-

tailers and about 12 from other parts of Canterbury. The company has a policy of rewarding retailers who have the best sales performances by inviting them as guests to sales conventions, and this year there was keen competition among retailers when they knew where the convention was being held. Travelling with the Christchurch aircraft yesterday was Mr Frits Philips, from Holland. who is president of the Philips international organisation. On a brief tour of New Zealand before going on to Australia, he was accompanied by Dr K de Boer, director of personnel and industrial relations for the whole organisation, and Mr B. P. M. Windsant, who is regional manager for the British Commonwealth in Eindhoven, the organisation’s headquarters.

The Mayor 'Mr G. Manning! went to the airport yesterday to meet Mr Philips, w’ho flew down in tbe chartered Electra from Wellington. and Mr Manning said good-bye to the party.

In Australia, the convention will be met by a businessmen’s delegation of about 80. With them and with the Gold Coast Chamber of Commerce. the New Zealand businessmen have arranged for talks /on New ZealandAustralian trade.
