, Sir. —I read with interest Your editorial on the topical ttOestion o r an Australia-New Zealand customs union. You criticised Mr John Eddy for using Queensland dairy farmers as an illustration, they being of lesser importance economically than Victorian dairy farmers. But you concluded that political rather tlian economic motive: would delay any customs union, because of the unholy alliance between vested interests and parochial politicians This, unfortunately, is the case And I would IPe to emphasise that while, in the economic sense. Queensland dairy farme-s should not be a problem, they always seem to have a strong political bargaining power and many are represented by the member for Fisher, now Miruster for Primary Industry Far frcm being able to dismiss them,
therefore, we will, as Mr Eddy suggests. find the Queensland dairy farmers one of the major problems in any plans for a customs union.—Yours, etc., J A A June 15, 1962.
