SPORTS GOODS IMPORTS

Cut For Discussion \t City Conference

"The Press" Special Service WELLINGTON. June 15.

With only 50 per cent, of last year’s import licence allocations for 1962-63 New Zealand sports goods dealers are expected to make this one of the main subjects on the agenda when their annual conference is held in Christchurch on June 23 and June 24.

The Sports Goods Wholesalers’ Association has alreadysought some adjustment of the allocation, which, at £534.000, represents only 0.22 per cent, of the total allocations for New Zealand. This cut of almost 50 per cent, on last year has meant some local shortages of expendable goods such as golf balls and ammunition, but there has been no national trend in shortages. According to the secretary of the Sports Goods Manufacturing and Retailers’ Federation (Mr C. R. Turner) the main licences are held outside the federation’s membership.
