APPEAL FOR HUNGRY
Today’s Drive Commended
The money raised in today’s appeal for the Freedom from Hunger campaign to help the people of the undeveloped countries will free many from hunger and the fear of want, according to the campaign chairman (the Rev. J. Dunn). “For them the money raised will mean the difference between a lifetime of hunger and poverty ending in death from starvation and disease, and a lifetime spent in useful work bringing health and a growing prosperity to themselves and their children,” he said in a statement yesterday. “More than 40 nations are joined in this campaign, the proceeds of which are for practical projects for increasing food production in the under-developed countries, and for alleviating hunger among children. “This is not just a handout of food; it is meeting a real situation of human need in a real way. This kind of realism should appeal to New Zealanders.” Mr Dunn said. “Moving Fact” “For the first time in history, nations have combined to free the world from hunger. This is one of the moving facts of our time—the spectre of suffering and needy humanity, and, alongside. these nations joined in a common endeavour to bring to all people the freedom which is ours, and to banish their fears. “New Zealanders are bound m conscience to support this campaign to the limit of their capacity,” he Baid. “Already many have given generously in this last week, donations amounting to hundreds of pounds have been arriving at C.0.R.50 headquarters. Wellington, from many parts of the country, a splendid augury for the success of the appeal The response to it will be New Zealand’s contribution to a greet cause, and I know the contribution will be worthy of a generous people.” The reason some children ere inattentive is that they are allergic to listening.—A New England physician.
