Old Firm’s Last Sale Of Wool
The final bale of wool to be sold in Christchurch by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., is shown above. The firm has been handling wool in Canterbury for more than 90 years. The bale bears the brand of the firm—N.Z.L. in a C.
Because of the merger of the firm with Dalgety and Company, wool will in future be sold by the new organisation, palgety and New Zealand Loan, Ltd. This bale of binned Southdown was sold yesterday by private treaty to Mr J. S. Me-
Gill, a buyer for R. J. Mackay, Ltd. It will go to Timaru for scouring before being shipped to Bradford. In the picture are, from left, Mr R. H. Cranfield, Christchurch branch manager of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company. Ltd., Mr McGill, and Mr B. R. Grimmett, the wool manager for the firm in Christchurch. Mr Cranfield said last evening that in its first year of operation in Canterbury, more than 90 years ago, the firm shipped wool to England by sailing ship.
