Chathams Air Service

Sir. —I read with interest Mr McAlpine’s remarks on the Chathams air service and wonder whether the matter has been shelved for all time. To my knowledge, the land plane service to Hapupu was never disrupted during it* short life, and in eight years the flying-boat service has been affected on only six occasions. When one reads of the frequent trouble being experienced at all New Zealand airports, it is hard to believe that a fortnightly flight to the Chatham* could cause much inconvenience if scheduled from Harewood on an off-day such as Saturday. Surely these people, as New Zealand taxpayers, are entitled to better treatment than is at present being giver them—Yours, etc., P. A. SMITH. June 5. 1962.
