EMBARGO ON LIVESTOCK

Govt. Move For Abolition

The Government was making every endeavour to have the embargo on the export of livestock, other than racehorses, from New Zealand to Australia removed, said the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Taiboys), in a letter received by the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce. A move to have the embargo lifted was begun by the Chamber of Commerce some time ago. on the motion of Mr J. Boyd-Clark. The question would be placed on the agenda for the meeting between the Australian Minister of Trade (Mr J. McEwen) and the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr Marshall), when the former visited New Zealand for trade talks, said a further letter from Mr Marshall’s private secretary. “It is unlikely that Mr McEwen will come to New Zealand until after Mr Marshall returns from the United Kingdom." said the letter.
