The International Olympic Committee has set the opening of the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games for October 10 The decision was announced by the chancellor (Mr Otto Mayer) after the committee’s second day of meetings, the Associated Press reported. Mr Mayer said the opening ceremonies would take place on Saturday. October 10. and competitions would begin the next day. The committee declined a proposal o give the athletes a day off between the opening ceremonies and the beginning of the 15-day games. A large majority agreed to a request, backed by the Japanese organisers and the International Volley B.. 1! Federation. that women's volleyball be admitted t "he 1964 Olympics. A proposal to admit women’s cycling was rejected by a large majority. Skeet shooting w’as also refused
Mr Mayer said the committee also approved a code of application for its basic rule on amateurism.
He declined to state the details of the code, which, he said had 12 points. Mr Mayer said that if Smith Korea did not agree to form a joint team with North Korea, both North and South Korea would be invited to send team.- to Olympics
