SQUASH RACKETS Canterbury Title Games Begin
Another marathon Involving M. O Holdsworth, whose fivegame encounters have become almost inevitable in local tournaments, was the feature of the Canterbury open squash rackets championships, which began last evening. From two games down and 2-7 in the third, Holdsworth saved a match point in the third and another in the fifth before finally beating A H Gould.
Apart from one B grade championship match, only firstround handicap games were played last evening. The open championship will begin at Chester street this morning, and play will continue throughout the day. with the finals of all events tomorrow afternoon. W A. Green (Timaru) .has had to withdraw from the tournament because of illness and R. G Pattinson enters the second round In the first round the title-holder, G. L Bird, will meet D. R. Preston and the third-seeded player, G A. Davidson (Christchurch) is expected to have a hard match against M. M Jones (Timaru) One of the best of the games this morning should be the meeting between M. J. Simons (Christchurch) and B. Rippin (Timaru).
