FOUR-YEAR TERM
Committee’s Attitude I Parity montan/ Reporter] WELLINGTON. June 7. No recommendation was made by the Standing Orders Committee of the House of Representatives on a proposal submitted to it that the term of Parliament be extended to four years and Shat the number of members of Parliament be increased from 80 tn 120 in stages. The committee considered that these matters were outside its terms of reference. The submission on the life of Parliament, described by the committee as "valuable.” was made by Dr. A. D. Robinson, on behalf of the school of political science and public administration at Victoria University. Another proposal which brought no recommendation from the committee was for the establishment of a Parliamentary research secretariat to make available expert research and advisory assistance to both parties, and that this establishment be financed out of public funds.
