NELSON CHESS TITLE

Canterbury Player Wins N. M. Cooper (Canterbury) won the annual Nelson district chess championships, held at Nelson during the week-end. Two Nelson club players. R, T. Baker and D. Benima. tied for second place half a point behind Cooper and will play each other for the Cole Brothers Cup, which is awarded to the highest-placed Nelson district player. Cooper won all his games except for one draw with his clubmate. R. Mitchell. In this game. Cooper was at a disadvantage when his clock developed mechanical trouble. R. Cornelissen, with three points, won the prize for the best score by a Nelson B grade player. Results were:—
