Reclamation Area
Sir, —You report. receipt of a letter by the City Council from the National Council of Women supporting the counci] in its reclamation scheme. The Chief Justice (Sir Harold Barraclough) has said that State departments or local authorities have the power to injure private citizens, sometimes without full compensation. Is the City Council doing this in the reclamation area? It has offered no replacement of homes, with one exception—a condemned house owned by the City Council. Mr Millthorpe says 404 bedrooms are occupied by 246 age beneficiaries. Does this portend an attack on the rights of individuals to possess bedrooms whether occupied or not? The City Council and the National Council of Women do not seem to have the virue of understanding.—Yours, etc.. JUSTICE. May 27. 1962.
