Hovercraft’s Trials
LONDON The world's first and largest hovercraft designed to carry passengers has had its trials in the Solent. The 27-ton craft, capable of carrying a full load of G 6 people, roared off with a cloud of spray and cruised about for 20 minutes. It is the Westland SRN-2. designed as a ferry to carry passengers and cars.
Address Cancelled.— Mr M. Searancke, of Gisborne, the national president of the Junior Chamber, was unable to address the New Brighton chapter last evening as planned because the Christchurch airport was closed and his flight from Wellington was cancelled. He will arrive in Christchurch on the steamer-express this, morning on his way to the Canterbury' and Westland regional conference to be held lin Waimate from tomorrow 'to Saturday.
