TEAMS' COSTS TO PERTH

Estimate Of £3500 The cost to the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association of Its 12-week Empire Games training school and of sending swimmers to Perth could be as much at £3500. the chairman of the association's council (Mr A. J. Donaldson) told a meeting of the council last night. Training school expenses could account for £2500 of this total. Mr Donaldson, who is also treasurer of the national body, made these estimates to give members of the council some idea as to what extent the association would be committed financially tn the training school venture. Funds would be available to meet the expenditure. Mr Donaldaon assured the meeting. The association had a balance of £l6OO in hand from last season and since then afflllatiop fees had been received But. he warned, the -national body would be short of ready cash for a period as a result of its Games training programme and centres would has a to play a bigger role in the financing of tours of New Zealand by overseas swimmers. Swimming in the Dominion, he observed, was slowly getting into bigger business all the time Water Polo Entry As the result of a request from F 1 N.A., the international swimming body, the council decided tentatively to enter New Zealand for the water polo competition at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo. The international body sought an Indication of New Zealand's plans in this respect, without oind*ng the national association to any answer given. The secretary (Miss D Brown I reported that the national water polo assn elation, through Its secretary, had expressed a desire to compete at Tokyo. But it assumed that first it would have to play Australia in an elimination match, as had been the case in 1960. Australia beat New Zealand in Melbourne on that occassion. so in 1964 it would be this country’s turn to stage the match.
