GOODMAN’S BAND
Restrictions Imposed (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) MOSCOW. June 5 Two restrictions have been imposed on Benny Goodman's relations with his Soviet public. Members of Goodman's jazz band, playing at the Black Sea resort of Sochi during their tour of Russia, were told they could not appear with the American Embassy deputy cultural attache. Mr Terence Cathee-mann. as interpreter. Mr Cathermann interpreted last night after’ Goodman found the Scviet interpreter he had used in earlier performances was missing out his patter and giving only the titles of the numbers played. The band was also prevented last night from distributing Benny Goodman buttons fo Soviet enthusiasts The previous night, hundreds of youths pushed their way to the stage door and were handed buttons. Last night as the coloured singer, Joya Sherrill, tried to hand out buttons from the orchestra bus. a policeman angrily ordered the bus to move off immediately.
