HOROTIU BORE
Gas Percentage High
(N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, June 5.
A sample of the gas taken from the natural bore at Horotiu. a few miles north of Hamilton, has been found to contain a very high percentage of natural gas. An Auckland consulting chemist, Mr L. S Spackman. has said only 3.4 per cent, of impurity had to be eliminated. Gas for normal use in industry sometimes has as much as 5 per cent, impurity. An analysis of water sample from the bore showed that the main constituent was common salt. The water is exceedingly hard and contains a lot of magnesia, suggesting that it was initially derived from the sea and was not of thermal origin Horotiu is IOWt above sea level. It is believed that investigation by the American operators who have a licence io prospect. will begin in the area soon.
